The February 2025 Edition of “The Chirp”, the official Sparrow’s Nest newsletter, features an inspirational note from Founder and Executive Director, Krista Jones

Next week marks a milestone that has been years in the making—one that has been etched in my heart since the very beginning of Sparrow’s Nest.

We are expanding our mission to feed anyone facing a cancer diagnosis in Dutchess County.

For years, I have carried this dream, fueled by the faces of the families we serve—the exhausted parents, the fighters sitting through another round of chemo, the ones too sick to cook but too proud to ask for help. I have met people whose hands trembled as they accepted their first meal, not because of the weight of the food, but because of the weight of their journey. And I have seen how a simple, home-cooked meal can bring more than just nourishment—it brings comfort, relief, and a reminder that no one fights alone.

Until now, our program had some restrictions. We had to make difficult choices about whom we could help in order to sustain and grow the mission. But cancer doesn’t discriminate, and neither should compassion. That is why, starting next week, our doors are opening wider. If you are fighting cancer in Dutchess County, Sparrow’s Nest will be there to fight for you.

This moment is not just a victory for our organization; it is a testament to the power of community. It happened because of you—our donors, our volunteers, our supporters. Every dollar you have given, every meal you have delivered, every story you have shared has led us here.

And yet, this is just the beginning. The need is great and we will slowly expand to the other counties we feed. Our work is far from over. But today, we celebrate. Today, we take a moment to recognize what love, perseverance, and a shared mission can accomplish.

Thank you for believing in this dream with me. Thank you for helping me make this dream a reality.

Dress Down Day 2025

When you wear a Sparrow’s Nest shirt, you’re making a statement. It’s soft- softer than ever before, in fact- but what makes it truly special is what it represents. It sparks conversations. It spreads awareness. It lets people know that behind this awesome, cozy shirt is a mission: feeding people fighting cancer. This simple shirt tells someone, “you are not alone”. It reminds them that their neighbors, schools, local businesses and entire community are standing with them.

The Dress Down Day store closes on February 19th at 5pm. Don’t miss your opportunity to order a shirt and wear it proudly with us on March 14th.
